A gear pump is one of the most common types of pumps designed for applications of hydraulic fluid power. A gear pump functions by using the meshing of gears so as to pump fluid by displacement. These devices are generally used in chemical installations so as to pump fluid with specific viscosity. Two basic types of gear pumps exist. Internal gear pumps utilize an an internal and an external spur gear and external gear pumps make use of two external spur gears. Gear pumps pump a constant amount of fluid for each and every revolution. This defines them as fixed or positive displacement. Several gear pump devices are designed to operate as either a motor or a pump.
When the gears on the pump revolve, they separate on the intake side of the pump. This creates a void and suction that is filled by fluid. This fluid is passed by the gears to the discharge side of the pump, and this is whereby the meshing of the gears operates to be able to displace the fluid. There are really small and tight mechanical clearances, which together with the speed of revolution efficiently avoid the fluid from leaking backwards. The rigid fabrication of the houses and gears gives the pump its ability to be able to pump highly viscous liquids and allow for extremely high pressures.
Forklifts can be purposely labeled for use in hazardous places. A labeled lift truck denotes the design has met the lowest requirements of ANSI/UL 558 intended for engine powered forklifts or ANSI/UL 583 meant for electric lift trucks for the type of label attached.
The application for labels meant for lift trucks can be found in National Fire Protection Association NFPA 505 - Powered Industrial lift trucks including: Type Designations, Areas of Use, and Maintenance and Operation. Check with your local insurance carrier and Fire Marshall for further information on the approved uses of industrial powered forklifts in your application.
If the lift truck has been found to meet the outlined standards, the following labels could be placed. A labeled truck would have the type designation put on the forklift nameplate and would have one of the following labels attached.
